Trouble Shooting for Gizmo VoIP

You may run into snags as you begin to use Gizmo VoIP on your Nokia device. Here is a list of possible issues and ideas on how to solve them. If you don't see an answer to your questions here check your Instructions or Support sections. Also, if your problem is not with Gizmo VoIP specifically, your Nokia device owners manual may be helpful.

 

Possible Issues

  1. Gizmo VoIP is not in the Download! Folder
  2. "Internet tel." says No Services Found

Gizmo VoIP is not in the Download! Folder
Open your phone's web browser to go to www.gizmovoip.com, choose the Account Management button, click on the Dowload Gizmo VoIP icon. This will download and install Gizmo VoIP, once this is complete you can go to "Internet tel." to begin configuring your phone.

"Internet tel." says No Services Found
You have not installed the "Internet tel." application from the www.gizmovoip.com website. Open browser and go to www.gizmovoip.com, click the Gizmo VoIP icon. This will download and install Gizmo VoIP. Now go back to Internet telephone and try again.

"Internet tel." says No Network Connection Found

This means your phone does not see a wireless network it can connect to. Select "Options" and then "Refresh" to activate network scanning again. You should see the WiFi network in the list.

If you see the WiFi network try "Internet tel." again.

If you don't see the WiFi network, refresh the network list again, and if you still don't see it, follow the steps of How to check WiFi connection.

Error Message, "Unable to connect to the connection network", when Trying to Configure

This could be because you mis-typed your User ID or password.

PLEASE NOTE - The password in the Nokia e61i is case-sensitive. The password in the desktop client, and on most of our web pages is NOT case-sensitive. If you are having difficulty, then you will need to recover your password from here:

(To find out how your password is stored on our system)

Check you User ID and password in following way.

  1. Go to "Application" menu,
  2. Select "Connectivity"
  3. Open "Internet telephone"
  4. Select "Options"
  5. Select "Settings"
  6. Select "Gizmo settings"
  7. Select "Edit Service settings"
  8. check User ID and re-type password
Now try to login to service with "Internet tel." again.

How to check WiFi Connection

Open your phone's browser, and follow these instructions

  1. Select "Options"
  2. Select "Settings"
  3. Set "Access Point" as "Always ask".
  4. Now save the settings by pressing "Back" button

You are in Browser Bookmarks page. Type some address, e.g. www.nokia.com and press the center selection button to go to the web site, when N80 asks to choose access point, choose the one you use for your internet calls.

If you are able to connect to the web site, try "Internet tel." again.

If you are not able to connect to web site, check your Access Points by selecting "Tools" from the Applications menu. Choose "Settings", and select "Connection", then select "Access Points" and check the settings of the access point you are using for internet calls.

If your Access Point settings match your WiFi network settings, reboot the phone and try again.

Phone Automatically Calls Using Cellular Network

You have two options, either make the internet calls your as preferred call type or choose Internet call prior to placing a call.

To set calling preferences to Internet follow these instructions:

  1. Press the Applications button (to the right of the button with the pencil on it)
  2. Select "Tools"
  3. Select "Settings"
  4. Select "Call",
  5. Scroll down to "Default call type"
  6. Select "Options".
  7. Select "Change" and make sure the radio button next to "Internet" is selected.

Also, you can choose to make an Internet call by selecting "Options" after you have entered the phone number to call or after you have chosen a contact from your address book.

Can't Tell if I'm Making an Internet Call
When you are on an Internet call, you will see a globe icon under the green phone handle that appears next to the number you are calling or receiving a call from.

When I'm Already Connected to Web Browser, I Still Have to connect to WLAN for "Internet tel."
Unfortunately, the browser and "Internet tel." are not related so you need to establish a connection specifically for your Internet telephone.

Error Message, "Your call cannot be completed as dialed", when Calling an Internet Number
You are not logged into the Internet telephone service and the phone is therefore trying to place the Internet call over the Cellular network. Make sure you have a WiFi connection and choose "Internet tel." from the Internet menu to connect.

Can't Get to the Gizmo VoIP Quick Start or Gizmo Account Manager
To view this site from your Nokia N80 go to N80 browser. If you are trying to view the site from a PC you will get an error message. To view the site from your N80 go to the web browser (the globe icon on the homescreen) and type in www.gizmovoip.com/nokia.

Have to Re-enter My Network WEP Key Each Time I Connect to "Internet tel."

This is probably because the Access Point you are using is not stored on your device.

You can add your wireless network by pressing the Applications button (to the right of the button with the pencil on it),then:

  1. Select "Tools"
  2. Select "Settings"
  3. Select "Connection"
  4. Select "Access Points"
  5. Select "Options"
  6. Choose "New access point" and create an access point with the correct settings.

First Letter is Always Capitalized when I Enter My WEP key or Other Passwords
By pressing the bottom right key on your key pad (the pound sign) you can easily change from upper case to lower case letters and vice versa.

Tips and Tricks

The key with the pencil on it allows you to quickly turn predictive text on and off, as well as copy and paste text.

Easily switch to all lower case when entering passwords, etc. by hitting the pound key.

Control the volume when you're on a call by using the right and left navigation keys.

You can forward calls placed to your Gizmo account to any phone number. This way you can still take your calls even when you don't have wifi access.

Save yourself extra clicks by moving the "Internet tel." icon to your standby screen. You can do this in "Standby mode" of "Phone Settings".

Quickly hitting the black button on top of the phone pulls up a menu so you can quickly change your ring mode, or turn off the phone.
